Dr Paul Alexander Burt graduated from the University of Birmingham Medical School in 1980.
Following house jobs at Birmingham General Hospital and Dudley Road Hospital, he trained on a General Medical Rotation at Selly Oak Hospital and the Midland Centre for Neurology and Neurosurgery.
Developing an interest in oncology, Dr Burt worked on the Princess Margaret Leukaemia Unit at East Birmingham Hospital and in 1984, commenced training in clinical oncology at the world-renowned Christie Hospital and Holt Radium Institute, Manchester. Between 1989 – 1990, he spent 6 months as a registrar at Westmead Hospital, New South Wales, Australia and in February 1990, was appointed Consultant Clinical Oncologist at the Christie Hospital, Manchester.
Dr Burt has developed a special interest in the management of lung and breast cancers, using chemotherapy, targeted agents and the latest radiotherapy techniques. He has a national reputation in the treatment of intraluminal tumours by brachytherapy.
Dr Burt is involved in the teaching of students from the University of Manchester Medical School and the postgraduate education of oncology trainees. He is also a visiting oncologist to Leighton Hospital, Crewe and Manchester Royal Infirmary.
Dr Burt is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of London and a member of the Manchester Lung Tumour Group.
He is available for appointments at the Richmond Oncology Centre on Monday evenings.
